2. Biophilic Design

Another top trend is biophilic design! Biophilic design brings the outdoors into your home through natural materials, colors, and plants. Even before COVID-19 lockdowns had people spending an increased amount of time indoors, studies showed that having plants in your home can improve concentration and reduce stress levels, and it can even improve indoor air quality. In 2022, it looks like our love for lush indoor environments will continue to grow.

3. Curved Lines

This year we are seeing softer, wavier lines in furniture, patterns, and architecture. In the past, sharp, clean, angular lines were incredibly popular, however, Pinterest’s trend prediction report for 2022, noted significant surges in search interest for curved walls and living room couches over the past year. Curves and rounded forms inherently feel softer and more calming than sharp angles and straight lines.

4. Mixing Vintage with New

Antiques and vintage-sourced decor will become more prominent especially with supply chain delays. This is not only eco-friendly since you are repurposing items, but it allows there to be a juxtaposition between old and new in a space. Not only do antiques or gently-used furniture have a story to tell, but they also generate interesting conversations. You can incorporate this in your own home by adding antique furniture or decor to your home. Make sure to not overdo it. A touch or do will add interest to your home. However, an entire room designed with older pieces can feel outdated.

5. Sustainability

Predicted to be a leading interior design trend of 2022 is sustainability, using organic materials responsibly, and the desire to be surrounded by nature. These 2022 trends in interior design are leading the way to decorate our homes. Sustainability is continuing to rise as more people are being more conscious of the items they are purchasing. More consumers are now looking into how their furniture is made, including the wood, glues, and fibers used to create it, as well as how far it has to travel to get to their homes. There is also a move toward building furniture with reclaimed wood and recycled metal and glass. Vintage textiles and fabrics are used in pillows and drapery, and accessories focus on handmade items that will last a lifetime.

6. Multi-Functional Spaces

With the continuation of hybrid and remote work into 2022, flexible live/workspaces that accommodate the needs of your home. Having multipurpose spaces has become more important than ever. While open floor plans once soared in popularity, the trend may taper off in 2022 in favor of layouts that distinguish between living and working areas and provide opportunities for privacy.

7. Warm Neutrals

Crisp whites, steely grays, and other cool neutrals are long-time favorites that deliver a clean, contemporary look, but preferences are starting to shift in a warmer direction. Expect to see these comforting neutrals and richer, earthier shades including taupe, camel, and burgundy to create a cozy, inviting atmosphere.

8. Texture, Texture, Texture

One of the 2022 Interior Design trends you will be seeing a lot of is… texture. Some examples include: Velvet, Wool, and Fringe! Even walls are receiving textural treatments through techniques like lime-washing and paint products that mimic plaster finishes. • My parents’ living room certainly needs an upgrade. Thanks for discussing different interior design ends such as adding texture using different materials like velvet, wool, and fringe. I think the first thing I can do is get in touch with the installation service to add a few art pieces.

  • Multi-functional spaces definitely sound like the trend that we can most benefit from when we start building our permanent home. This could be a great way to utilize as much space as possible, making us feel like our investment was worth it. I’ll consult a house contractor so we can design the project with this in mind.
