I have question for you, friend. Is your home functional or is it messy and cluttered? If it is the later, I have been there especially with two kids at home! At Stone House we believe that your home should not only be stylish and beautiful, but also a place that works for you and your lifestyle; Both functional and aesthetic.
So, how do you achieve this? How do you style a functional home? Today we are sharing how to create functional style in your home with a few of our favorite tips!
1. Opt for durable fabrics
Easy-to-clean materials are rising in popularity as a way to curb the spread of germs. Using fabrics that are durable, wear well, and can be washed multiple times can be incredibly beneficial when thinking of the functionality of your home. If you have kids or pets, thinking of this before purchasing furniture can be very helpful.
You can even purchase customized furniture through an interior designer to use custom fabric, sizes, styles, and more.

2. Add Multi-Purpose Furniture
With many of us adding workspaces to our living rooms (or basements) and classrooms in kitchens, having multipurpose spaces has become more important than ever. Finding more ways to reimagine their homes and incorporate pieces that help restore balance are incredibly important. An easy way to do this is use multi-purpose furniture or decor, it will help keep the style of your home while also adding organization and function.
3. Ditch the Clutter
The fastest and easiest way to make a space functional is to declutter. Decluttering is an important step in the process because it creates space, makes organizing easier, and allows you to show the things you love about your home.

4. Create Flow and Defined Spaces
Another thing we recommend is to focus on defining the space. Today’s trend is very much about open plan living but we still need to ensure that the dining area is the dining area and the living room is still the living room. This can be done by using furniture and accessories in smart ways. Use different rugs to define two spaces like a combined sitting and dining area. Place plants in between two spaces as a divider and make sure your furniture is strategically in one area, not crossing over.
It’s also important to remember that once you are done you should use your defined spaces for the purpose you created them for!
We then need to ensure that the space/room flows. Can you walk around without bumping into furniture? Are useful items positioned close to one another? Ask yourself these questions before you reorganize your room!
These are easy ways that you can easily create functional style in your home! Look around your home with an open mind. Be critical and creative and reimagine your space with functionality and style in mind.
