A basement is such a versatile room in every house. It is a great place for storage, and it for many homeowners it turns into a recreation room… which usually means a basement bathroom is installed. However, most bathrooms in the basement can be dark and dingy. Today we are breaking down easy ways you can refresh your bathroom to make it light, bright, and feel like you are stepping into a spa.
Paint
When choosing a paint color for your basement bathroom there are a few key things to keep in mind. The first being, make sure you pick a color that is not too dark, otherwise it can make the space seem smaller than it is. It can also make the room seem very dark since there is no natural light source.
There is also an important thing to note about color psychology when it comes to selecting a shade. Take a look below for specific information for each:
Red | A dynamic & passionate color. Symbolizes a strong feeling, whether it’s love or anger. Red is often the most attention grabbing color. It also increases appetite & heart rate, so it’s widely used in industries like fast food.
Orange | A combo of red & yellow, so orange is a very active color. It immediately makes viewers react & has a sense of excitement and happiness from the yellow. It’s often thought to feel very positive, uplifting and rejuvenating.
Yellow | The color of happiness! It’s the most visible to the human eye and often represents the shining sun, laughter and creativity. It’s a very energetic color which tends to increase mental awareness.
Green | With strong ties to nature, it’s no wonder that green gives feelings of stability, grounding & earthy vibes. It’s the color of money which can represent structure and freedom, but it has a very balancing and calming effect on viewers.
Blue | This color can represent serenity as well as knowledge. Blue is the color of the sea and the sky, so often it’s thought to be relaxing, bringing a deep peace and calm. But it’s also associated with intelligence. Blue is thought o provoke mental clarity and productivity.
Purple | Combining the stability of blue with the energy of red. Purple is often a color of power, luxury and royalty. It represents a deep, rich feeling of “more is more.” But it can also have a more playful, mystical, creative side depending on the shade.

New Decor and Wall Art
When you’re ready to do more than just upgrade from the paint. You can consider what kind of decor and wall art that you want in the space. Choosing your decor and what wall art you like will depend on your unique style and taste. We love using Pinterest to garner inspiration and ideas. You can find pretty much any style on there from boho-chic to modern-day classic.
For this project, we were going for a spa theme. One that is very grounding, calming, and natural. So we choose to include natural elements, like these Scalloped Seagrass Baskets and lighter colors of the linens to contrast with the green paint.

We opted for this vintage-inspired Blue Bathing Suit Wall Art to go above the toilet as well as a fake plant on top of the toilet.
